My Stand Up Act

Hey guys. Just wanted to go ahead and share one of my stand up sets from late last year.

Now, it goes without saying that comics are essentially playing a "character" when they do a stand up act, so don't start thinking this is how I go about speaking in day-to-day life.

Also, I wouldn't say this is my best delivery of this set, but it's adequate. Hope you guys like it.

You're better than the late night "comedians".
Of course that's not that hard these days, since they have recently decided that comedy doesn't have to be funny.
However, I think you should still stick with programming as a career. Being a professional comedian isn't a path to riches any more than being a book author is. Don't ask me how I know the latter. :-)

Thank you, fellows! I really enjoy the comedy of the likes of Sarah Silverman and Dave Chappelle. Trying my hand at stand up gave me a new appreciation of how difficult their jobs really are.

I saw your name in the Amazon author thread posts first and immediately googled, because that’s what I do. (I can’t handle github, so no SearX for me). Unsurprisingly, there are a few guys out there who share your name. Nope..that guy’s from Shanghai. No, this guy’s in Toronto.

You’re way better looking than those guys and more what I pictured. No mindblowing jokes in that clip, but funny enough. Smooth delivery with good pacing. The only hesitations looked intentional and in the appropriate places. I always enjoy a good Canadian accent.

My one nitpick: no Harry Browne jokes? Because everyone would get those.

Thanks! I am working on my material and my delivery and am aiming to continue growing with the craft. Acting is nerve wracking enough, but doing stand up is even worse. The high order bit is the fact that stand up is done in a largely uncontrolled environment (unlike, say, a film set). There are drunk patrons everywhere. There are hecklers. There's music. There are people coming and going.

Regarding putting myself out there... To be entirely honest, I actually get quite a bit of my social interaction through this forum. It seemed incongruous that the people here didn't have some semblance of who I am.

I will work in some Harry Browne/Permanent Portfolio wordplay into my next set. Ha!
