I don't think any of us are in a position to judge the physical security of a vault, but in any case I think the risk is much higher of employee theft. So the question should be do these facilities have independent insurance coverage and third party audits of their holdings? I know the one I use does, and am guessing the others do as well. But that is something to verify before entrusting your savings to them.

Too late. I emptied vaults last December.

Good call, but no it is a nod to the original Rocinante by Cervantes. A knight errant needs an appropriate steed.
Although it was an excellent choice by The Expanse.

I was a bit struck by the ordinariness of these buildings. Seems like a team of commandos could get in and out. Although Dave is right about employee theft.

A family member went to the Singapore Vault. Full body scan on going in plus they weigh you coming in/going out to make sure you didn't slip anything in your pocket. Also said it appeared the military was guarding the building - raiding commandos might have a bit of a surprise :o

PS: Most of the facility is underground for any would be commando's

Quick calc, I think I can get 1 kilo of air into a 1 liter bottle at 15,000psi. Now, I just need to figure out the body scan part.

Edit: Okay, I've got the body scan part figured out. It requires more lube and commitment than I have. All yours, Hal. I can help you with the displacement weight.

Interesting side story about zooming out a bit. Fidelity uses a company for purchasing bullion (I think in your 401k but maybe it’s for IRA’s). Anyway the picture they show if the company is a close up the sign on the front the building - it left looked solid and impressive. I did a little research and found the address. The building was a tiny industrial building. Like a very small town bank.
