I've this approach mentioned several times now and it seems like something to look into. Recently Tim Price of Price Value Partners even mentioned that his alternative to the PP is Value Stocks, Precious Metals, and Trend Following. I also heard another person from Standpoint Asset Management (standpointfunds.com) mention the same thing.
This seems like a reasonable all weather alternative. Follow trends wherever they lead you, Invest in solid companies, have gold as a back stop.
I wish there was some type of simple(ish) way to participate in trend following strategies. Standpoint Asset Management has some good Mutual funds (blndx / remix) that are using this strategy but they are charging alot. They are beating a the GB by about 1 percent (but not after fees).
I feel like the trend following could be a key when every asset is inflated: Stocks, Bonds, Real Estate, Commodities...

Re: A New PP
That’s exactly what I thought as well but it has something to do with the futures market, is very complicated, and has a high degree of asymmetry. You could have long and short positions going simultaneously so be net market neutral.
Any for now it’s way above my head but I feel like I should try to figure it out and see if there is a relatively cheap way a mere mortal can participate.
