Predicting the future is hard, but this Harold Camping fellow appears to be even worse at it than most.

If he had asked for my advice, I would have told him that if he must make a prediction, make it for some future date that was virtually certain to be after he had died. 

That way he could work his prediction with enthusiasm, confident that no consequences of being wrong would every come back to him (other than perhaps having his grave vandalized by disgruntled followers).

I am always surprised at the way ego and ignorance can coalesce in the personalities of these charismatic leaders.
