My father was born in Greece [although he was of Spanish decent] and served during WWII. He claimed if it was left up to the Italians to conquer Greece, we would still be waiting.

Greece had kicked the Italians out and took some land from Italy (that Italy had taken from others) - some of the first land victories against the Axis (Europe) in WW-II. But then again the Nazi's stepped in....

But have to remember to thank Italy - if not for them, Nazi Germany attacks the USSR a month or two earlier (with more men probably - Rommel), and then the weather doesn't stop them outside Moscow.....
