I stopped driving more than two decades ago and am married to a beautiful, smart woman who has adjusted.

Currently sitting at the bus stop in the middle of my 2.5 hour commute.
Does the young lady drive?
Yup!
I will level with you guys though. I have not yet broke it to her that I am not able to drive. I walk to meet her and she probably just figures it’s because she is close.
I don’t think it’d be a huge deal. It’s only another 2 months. Still, it’s a little embarrassing.
And, it makes me wonder if there is some movie in there....

I'm thinking of that episode of It's Always Sunny where Dee dates the rapper. She thinks it's great but The Gang convinces her he's retarded, and at the end he figures it out and battle-raps them and drops the mic.
For Smithers, she find out he doesn't drive and thinks there's something wrong with him (like, he's retarded!) and breaks up with him. Then in 2 months she hears some honking outside on the street. She opens the window and leans out, whereupon she sees Smithers in his souped up, bodykit-modded Honda or Toyota, revving his engine.
Ice cold stare.
Hold it.
HOLD IT
Then peel out, maintaining eye contact. Tokyo Drift around the corner, never to be seen again.

Lol you guys are just too much, and I love you all.
I read your responses while at work and it made me smile. Just a bright spot in a shit situation.
Another bright spot. I’m connecting with my boss (finally), and she actually seems to be warming up to me now. That made this day at work pretty sweet.

One month from now, on May 9th, I will be able to drive again.

You guys have been awesome people to chat with and befriend, especially during such a crappy time.
I will post a picture for sure when I can drive again!
I've said this in a previous thread, but I'll say it again. There is a small part of me that is actually thankful for the lockdown that's going on. With no place to go, the weight of the fact that I can't drive has been lifted. Truthfully, my quality of life has gone up substantially since self-isolation began.
Aside from going to places like work, it's also entirely ameliorated my feelings of FOMO. I know I'm not missing out on that great get-together at the restaurant, because, well, none of them are open!

Hehe that's a good question! I hadn't thought of that. My mind's just been so focused on actually getting the license back.
Assuming we're still on lockdown on May 9th, I'll probably go to pick up some home gym equipment. (Since it wasn't feasible to buy a lot of that stuff and take it home without a car.)
Then the McDonald's Drive-thru.... ha!!

Just to elaborate from before.
I am "lucky" that the timing of this shutdown happened when it did. Because just beforehand, I was THIS close to quitting my job due to the hardship of getting there and back.
If I had done so, I would not be receiving the pay protection the company is providing us with. Further, I wouldn't even qualify for the government's economic relief benefit since I quit my job rather than being laid off.
In other words, that was a close call. If lockdown was delayed another week or two I would have been up shit creek without a paddle.

That's great news, Smithers. Like Pug I was also thinking you have nowhere to go, but maybe you can take your date to Lookout Point and something will ensue. Or you could have CostCo pastries together.
(I’m enjoying Kriegsspiel's imagery all over again

)

Lookout Point haha. That reminds me of Archie Comics.
I'm probably the mushiest person on this forum, but yeah, I LOVE YOU GUYS AND YOUR PPs TOO.

Congratulations on getting your license back!
I'm mostly a reader (lurker?) here but can say we've been blessed by the bonus energy that you have invested here while not being able to drive. I hope you don't get too busy to spend time here with us.

This forum is my (digital) home! If I ever leave here it will be because I got hit by a bus. *knock on wood*
I'm going to look back and reflect on this experience in my journal. I'll probably post some takeaways in this thread.
Heck, even this thread is a time capsule of sorts which chronicles this whole experience. Just look at how melancholy the first couple of pages are.
And thank you for the kinds words! I do hope my presence and posting here brings positivity and value to others.

I heard a rumor that Smithers is dating Grimes.
Except it’s Canada, so it’s a rumour.

+1, great news, but the dating stuff was so much more interesting!
I feel like this forum provides me with a put option on my romantic life.
Even if my relationship turns to sh*t, I'll always have a great story to tell as consolation!
