These last few posts seem to just be arguing semantics. Libertarian666, you definitely choose to remain in the U.S., even if you don't find it to be a perfect country.  You could teach English in any number of inexpensive countries that would have you as a freelancer. It's kind of like you're saying you have to live in the U.S. because your utopia hasn't materialized.

Really? Do those countries hand out citizenship papers and passports, without costs that are prohibitive to people without great wealth? If they don't do that, then I'm still stuck with US citizenship, which is a major drawback in the world today.

Really. For starters I've lived abroad -- not studied up on the topic, but lived it --  by renewing my tourist visa. And, I did it without using any "wealth", because there wasn't any.

I've got friends who lived in Morocco for years on their work visa. All of us taught English as a second language.
I'm not saying it's easy, or that you can just shuffle off to Switzerland. But, sounds kind of victimlike to say that there are no options.

Well, the countries where I renewed a tourist visa were Thailand (months) and Taiwan (years). I also lived in Moscow, but that was on a work visa.

As for living somewhere on a tourist visa, that is too risky for me.

Everyone always has options, unless they are in prison. For example, I could commit suicide.
