As a member of the permanent portfolio family, I enjoy learning from you, and value your opinions. On this, the "other" page, I thought it might be interesting to hear of the favorite (or for Clive, favourite) vacation/place that you have been. For me, it was a Grand Canyon rim to rim hike with this company:

A wonderful experience, unparalleled scenic beauty, and a nice sense of accomplishment all rolled up in one.

I've been to over 20 different countries now. I liked them all for what little exposure I had to them. Although New Zealand I would put up there near the top in terms of sheer natural beauty.

Well done, Clive. Your Canary Island destination intrigues me to learn more, as that is a place very few Americans choose for vacation. Aah, the magic of the internet.

Napali Coast, Kauai, Hawaii - beautiful mountains/cliffs dropping off into the Ocean. There is also Waimea Canyon which Mark Twain called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. The whole island of Kauai is beautiful.

Italy - Rome, and also Pompeii which is south of Naples. The ancient history is simply amazing. Walking down 2000 year old streets is very cool. Venice was a little too crowded/expensive but still cool to see.

Tortola, BVI. Beautiful sailing around the caribbean islands there. I had a friend that had sailing experience and 8 of us rented a 50 ft sailboat for a week. One of my favorite vacations but difficult to do if you don't know how to sail or know someone that does.

Those were my favorites so far. Looking forward to seeing more responses from others.

It's fun to see what places others have enjoyed.

I have been very fortunate to have visited many countries.  It is amazing to see all the different cultures.  For example:

Lhasa, Tibet---One of the most downtrodden places in the world in addition to the deportation of the Dalai Lama.  These are probably the happiest people I have encountered.  Singing while they work, very religious.

Rome, Italy---Unbelievable history here.

Pompeii, Italy---Very well preserved, although it needs to be protected better so that future generations may enjoy as well.

Istanbul, Turkey---Topkapi Palace and Blue Mosque.

Xian, China---Terra Cotta Warriors.  Can't believe this was created for just ONE emperor.

Holy Land---Has brought a whole different perspective to the Bible when I can picture the locations.

London, England---Fabulous theater

Sedona, Arizona---Much prettier than the Grand Canyon, IMHO

Quebec, Canada--So quaint and the restaurants are fabulous.

Vancouver, Canada---Would choose to live her if I were a citizen.  Very cosmopolitan.

Paris, France---Love the architecture

We are planning  trip to Egypt and Jordan (Petra).  Looking forward to seeing firsthand places that I have only read and seen pictures of.

My MIL gave me 1000 Places to See Before You Die.  No, I don't think she is looking to kill me off. LOL...  But the book does pique my curiousity.
