Recently we had a short discussion on Bluesky, of which I'd been prior unaware.

I just joined it in the midst of reading these two articles.

How Bluesky, Alternative to X and Facebook, Is Handling Explosive Growth
The fledgling social media site has been flooded with new users since the election. It hasn’t all been easy.

The exodus from X to Bluesky has happened – the era of mass social media platforms is over

We'll see how often I use it. At this point it will be last in line of social media sites I visit on a regular basis. There can be many days that I do not make it to X at all.

Leftists already have reddit as their echo chamber. They never actually move to Canada either.

I am on Reddit but rarely ever, ever go there.

I caught a robotic permaban on Reddit for no particular reason. I just read it now.

You have no idea what caused it? I have a friend who continually gets banned but then just comes right back in under another name.

The other non-attractive feature for me regarding Reddit is that the communications seem to be confined to those like texting -- only a few words. Did not see any long form paragraphs there.

It all started when I made comments about my Texas Senator Cruz, who I dislike. I got banned from r/texas

Then in r/politics I responded to a question about the Hispanic electorate here in Texas with my own observations. That's when the permaban took place. The bot said... "you've made a racially offensive post"... no, you stupid bot.

They track your IP address and MAC address, you can't evade them really by making a new account. Not for very long.

It's fine, it was becoming a time and attention sink.

Talk about a flawed way to assemble a CCP-style Social Credit score.

Thats the problem with communist fantasies, in practice people abuse power. Maybe Vinny wouldnt, but he's not the type that works to acquire power. Congressmen should be selected at random from qualified pools. And term limits.

I was auto-banned from dozens of subs including "pictures" and "InterestingStuff" etc

The message says "banned for participating in disinformation subreddit LockdownSkepticism. Message the mods with a promise to not post there again, to be unbanned"

Glad I got bored with bogleheads before 2020 they mustve banned hundreds. We were supposed to have flying cars by 2020 not a Maoist insurrection.

edit1: Bhattacharya to head NIH, wild if true.
Although its strange how much free time he and Elon have to post on twitter.

I'm not sure why you experienced this Vinny. There is a lot of long form content on Reddit. Reddit is pretty deep. There are countless subreddits on subjects totally unrelated to politics. Some of the ones I follow are centered around photography, cooking, woodworking, metalworking, damnthat'sinteresting, design, architecture, pizza, puppytraining. The salsa subreddit is full of hardcore fanatics. SalsaSnobs requires posting a recipe so the posts there are a great source if you like making salsa. No matter what your interests might be, there will be subreddit dedicated to them.
Your local subreddit will always have some good info too.

+1 it’s twitter that’s shortform by design. Reddit is often longform.

I got banned from a cute pet subreddit for chiming in with an anecdote about a pitbull attack, following 2-3 similar anedocotes. I regularly delete my reddit account anyway.

After I wrote what I wrote I asked my friend who'd been many times banned how he did it.

He said that they have permanently banned him from using the IP address associated with his laptop.

He can create another identity with his phone. But if he then uses that same identity on his laptop they will then aggregate that new identity with the laptop IP address so he'll now no longer be able to use that new identity anywhere.

I've been stopped by X for a period of time for too much activity.

I've been banned or suspended from Facebook on several occasions because I am so fast at what I do that it seems automated. Since then I pace my activity so as to not get any more suspensions.

I wouldn't do it. I only want the power if I am the best person to have it. Otherwise, I want people more competent at me at whatever it is to have the power.

Then it seems like my brief investigation led me to make the wrong conclusions.

I spend enough time here and elsewhere that I was no looking for any other places to absorb my time.

Both of you have high credibility so I definitely stand corrected.

Next time I go into reddit I will report what I see that time.

As of the last hour I am now an official active member of Bluesky after discovering that my favorite New York Yankees fan person has essentially fled X and is now seemingly exclusively on Bluesky as of 17 days ago.

From nothing I now have 9 followers and am following 172.

That contrasts with my X similar numbers of 28, 600 / 29, 300.

On X I try to follow only those who follow me and most times do not look at my X feed. Instead looking at what comes in via the various lists I have set up.

Update is that almost a week later .. don't spend too much time there. Spend far more time comparatively (though not a lot) at X.

At Bluesky now have 59 followers and am following 190.
