i am at the stage of my life i don’t care much about historical.
what i care most about is what i experienced in my life time and most importantly most recent experiences since i am in the last down at 72
my concerns are did what was supposed to work actually work when called upon .
sadly very little in conventional investing did what it was supposed to in 2022 .
why 2022 , because that’s when my assets were at their peak and if i am paying for insurance by giving up gains and not being 100% equities and i put that claim in , i expect to be paid .
that didn’t happen with conventional investing , but it did happen with the newer designed portfolios using alternative investment strategies and risk parity

However, does that not put you knowing nothing about these portfolios regarding their future performances?
You cannot use their history to predict the future. And, of course, the future is unknowable.

all we can do is try to put the odds on our side and monitor it along the way ..
it’s no different than medical science , where what was once believed to be true or the way to treat something no longer is found to be the best way.
strategies that have been used for decades are finally being brought down to a retail level where risk vs reward can be taken to levels never seen before in conventional investing

Ha! He’s got the diversification. Now he just needs to mention rebalancing.
