Musk said he'd ask Trump about $5K checks for US taxpayers funded by DOGE savings

DOGE hasn't found $5000 per US taxpayer. Elon is obviously pretty bad at math.
As of tax year 2023, approximately 161 million individual tax returns were filed in the United States.
I don't think DOGE is even claiming to have found $5000 x 161E+06 = $0.805 trillion yet. Maybe this is... aspirational?
I think they've claimed to have found $55 billion, or $341.6 per taypayer.
Talk about inflationary! People would suddenly have $5000 unexpected Dollars in their pocket, it would go out and chase products, services, investment assets.... it couldn't possibly NOT chase those things. Few people would just put it in the bank or buy T-Bills and chill (Well, I would. But that's just me, I'm not like most other people).
The thought that $0.805 trillion, if found, would not go to paying down the debt is simply offensive to me, given the Scheisse creek this country is headed down without a paddle concerning the debt - which is why I own das Gold.
If liquid Scheisse gets really turbulent, is the foam white, or is it still brown?

The thought that $0.768 trillion, if found, would not go to paying down the debt is simply offensive to me, given the Scheisse creek this country is headed down without a paddle concerning the debt - which is why I own das Gold.

I could not be any more in agreement with you on this one!

Help me understand -
Even if they "found" $55 billion, they are talking about finding savings i.e. reduction in expenses that would have otherwise been paid. That's not the same thing as finding a $55 billion stash of cash.
Ostensibly the savings will result in a reduced deficit, but we will still be operating at an aggregate deficit with a ($33 trillion?) outstanding debt.
So how would the $5000 checks be funded? The only way I can see would be by creating money through the issuance of more debt.
What am I missing?

"What am I missing?"
I don't think you are missing anything. Inexplicably all the ones who seem to be touting are the ones who seem to be missing everything!
