Is Asus the next Lenovo?

I've been messing around with a few new computer systems lately as I went through a couple buy and return cycles at my local retailer.

The manufacturer whose build quality I've been most impressed with lately out of left field? Asus.

I've long been a fan of Lenovo ThinkPads. However, my gripe with Lenovo as a company is that it's really only ThinkPads that seem to have exceptional build quality. The other product lines like IdeaPad seem to have just average quality. Not bad, but nothing special.

Asus seems to be different. I've handled some of their low, mid, and high-end machines, and they all seems to have extremely solid build. And instead of simply making vague proclamations about durability, they appear to have committed to having all of their machines meet an objective standard: MIL-STD-810H.

I was pleasantly surprised to feel how solid even their $200 CAD Chromebooks were.

That's good to know, because a lot of us have machines that won't upgrade to Windows 11 ! I'll make-do with Ubuntu for a while, but eventually I'll need Windoze.
