Hi PPers/VPers :)

If you have a good book to read, please advise. Thanks.

I guess it depends on the topic you're interested in.

I finally have started reading 1984 by Orwell, as recommended to me on another thread (I am a young'n).  I haven't read enough for comments, other than I'm definitely interested enough to read more.

Two recommendations ...

This guy is still alive at age 95 and doing public speaking engagements....A remarkable story. I think it might be a movie soon.

I like to read stories like this (and the one above) to remind myself of how easy my life has been in comparison with probably 99% of human beings that have ever lived on the planet. This is about the people living on the Great Plains being hit by the double whammy of the Great Depression and the worst man-made ecological disaster in American History, i.e., the Dust Bowl, at the same time.

Old thread, but hey it only has 3 posts.

Has anyone read ‘The Fifth Risk’ by Michael Lewis?

I find it fascinating.

Thanks. I will get that on my Kindle for my 12 hour trip to Maui next month.

"Liar's Poker" was actually one of the first books I ever read about finance and I'm glad I did because it gives you a really good insight about how things work - mainly that the system is designed to work for THEM and not for YOU which is something everyone needs to know.

"The Big Short" was also a great book. The Movie, not so much.

His other books about sports I have only seen in movie form, i.e., "The Blind Side" and "Moneyball".

Definitely do. I think it was his first book and it's a firsthand account of his own experience trying to establish himself in the world of finance as a bond trader. He eventually attained the coveted status of "big swinging dick" by selling a lot of bonds every other trader thought was worthless to one of his firm's own customers.

Should be required reading for every new investor.

If it is a recent book...I think I did read it. But remember nothing about it.

Those two sports books were excellent as were the movies.
