Gyroscopic Investing

I had this idea. Not sure if it is sound but if you worked for a gold dealer, let's say once a week, anyone have any experience on if you can get gold at their factory rates?

I know when I used to work at Walgreens I'd get a 15% discount at the store but not sure if I would at a gold dealer. I was thinking of this to lower the premiums then that you would pay for purchasing physical gold for the PP. It might also work the other way too for selling gold as well for getting a better price than regular customers coming in.

Thoughts?

If you were to view your one day per week simply as an enjoyable hobby, then I suppose any kind of "employee discount" you might receive would just be icing on the cake.

If your primary goal is to save money, however, your one day per week might be better spent doing more lucrative work. Time = money.

Ahh right. That would make sense. Well I do enjoy the customer service part that gets lost in an engineering job. As I said I used to work at Walgreens for many years while in high school and college and enjoyed it a lot.

But as for time = money, it was of poor quality. Maybe I should start a pyramid scheme. Those always look like they work out for the person at the top at least.

Get a job at Disneyworld or maybe working security at concerts.

There aren't THAT many people buying gold at retail, at least not yet.  Most gold dealers are small businesses, with not a lot of need for extra staff.  I guess you could work as an intern, but whether or not that would quality you for discounts, I don't know.

Like MediumTex said--easier to do Disneyworld and use your wages to pay for coin.

Too bad Disneyworld would be a terrible commute for me from Pennsylvania as of now. Ideally I could find a job that pays me for doing things I normally do, like using the bathroom or eating. I've thought of food critic before, but I probably couldn't get a job if all I ever write was "this food was good, or this food was bad".

One of my favorite books, The Richest Man in Babylon, has a quote on how to handle this question best.  "Ask the Brickmaker about bricks." Basically do want you do best, earn the best you can with your own time, and then trade with those who are best at what you need.  Don't go out and try and make your own bricks if you are not an expert.
