The Future of Google

A lot of people are talking about Google Glass right now — the new augmented reality glasses that basically runs Chrome browser for your life. However, before you get too excited about them, consider what technology will eventually make the Google Glass obsolete.
Yep. You guessed it. "Google Lenses"
That's right a little over a year ago, GoogleX posted a video about the research is already being done to put a web browser in your eye.

So, I think it's kind of funny how we are witnessing the birth of mainstream augmented reality with a pair of glasses that one day will be replaced with contact lenses.
One day, your grandchildren will say... "Grandpa, is it true that in 2013 some people used to wear dorky 'computer glasses' on their face?"
Yes, and they only cost $1500 back then.

Yes, it seems kind of short-sighted.
Damn, I thought this was going to be about the stock. Anti-gold investors are always talking about how gold doesn't pay a dividend. Neither does GOOG, but I own some shares. I just have to have a few shares of this amazing company.

Heh... But in all seriousness, there wouldn't really be a need for a brain implant. As the video explains, the contact lens would be able to respond to — and sense — your brain, as well as your own bodily diagnostics. In other words, your eye has these micro-responses for all sorts of things that could be sensed by the lens without invasive surgery. Plus, upgrading would be a lot easier.
And all you would ever need along with the contact is an earbud or earclip. Anyway, yeah... I say save $1500 and wait fifteen years for the 3rd generation contact lens.
I will say that video games would be a lot more realistic through a contact lens. People could even open up holodeck rooms that move in sync to (with sound, movement, temperature, air, special effects) with what is happening in the lenses. Makes me wonder if one day people will die of heart attacks from their lenses!

Childhood maladies of the future will include post traumatic stress disorder from playing the latest first person shooter video games.

Ah, but by that time we'll be carrying 3D-printed Google organs. Hopefully with minimal to zero software.

I find it really interesting that all the situations above e.g. implants, glasses/contacts were predicted/described in science fiction stories (and some really good ones) long before now.

That would certainly be a new take on iridology which gets no respect from conventional medicie (but, of course!).

I'll be honest with you. I was never into leather chaps, but I like that vest. Of course, I couldn't wear it on the street without conjuring up that unlucky bar scene from the first Police Academy movie. ;-)

One thing they didn't forsee in the science fiction movies is that all this tech probably causes cancer. People are already considering the potential cancer problem with Google Glasses:

I just recently watched a
Star Trek: DS9 episode where a minor plot point concerned the EM radiation from all the high-tech instruments causing an alien species to basically get alien cancer. It was one of the scarier episodes because of how dependent the protagonists were on their tools, yet those same tools were passively harming the people they were trying to help.
