Portfolio Monitoring Tool - Re-balancing Bands Only

Post by buddtholomew »

I am certain that this has been discussed before, but I am unable to locate the thread. I would like to monitor the permanent portfolio using percentages only, so that I am not required to access my Excel spreadsheet and refresh to populate actual totals. Do any of the publicly available portfolio management tools (Morningstar, Yahoo, etc) offer this capability? I obviously watch the ebbs and flows too frequently and this is an attempt to only act when an asset class breaches the 15/35 tolerance bands.

Google Finance works well. just set up a hypothetical portfolio with 4 proxy funds- VTI/IAU/TLT/BIL for instance.  put 10K in each and monitor the percentage of gain/ loss.

The Morningstar portfolio manager tool includes a % Weight field that will serve the desired purpose. There are alerts for dividend and capital gains distributions, but # of shares held will require a manual update. I also added an alert for +/- 10% daily fluctuations in a single asset as volatility of this nature could result in a breach of tolerance bands. Thanks for the feedback.
