I'm watching a show on The History Channel 2 called America's Book Of Secrets. Tonight's episode is The Gold Conspiracy and its worth watching if you have the chance. It speaks of our country's recent efforts to artificially devalue the price of gold so that they can keep spending and enlarge the government. It also gets into the possibility that we don't have the gold that we say we do.

Didn't see the show, Reub.

Does this mean that gold ETFs are not really holding gold?

They actually spoke of the possibility that our very own U.S. government may not have all of the gold that they are supposed to have. They even speculated that because the Federal Reserve Bank's gold vault in NYC is 5 floors underground and directly across the street from Chase's gold vault...which is coincidentally 5 floors below the ground, that there may be tunnels connecting the two and gold might be shuffled back and forth. Also mentioned was the fact that our government has not allowed a thorough physical audit of Fort Knox in many years. Additionally a few countries, Germany included, have asked that the gold that we hold for them be returned and we have told them that the earliest that it could happen would be 2020.
On a lighter note, later in the show, they spoke of mass gold counterfeiting that is going on involving gold-plated tungsten...something that individual gold holders should be wary of. The Tungsten has about the same weight as gold.

Once upon a time the History Channel used to be pretty good. But in recent years they have taken a decided turn into the world of fringe conspiracy theories. I can only assume the ratings are better. But really, do we need a cable TV version of World Nut Daily?

I agree with Ad O. It's all alternative Jesus tales & aliens.
But, I tried to watch the show online anyway at history dot com. It asked me to login with my tv provider, but then it went black. (shrug).
