What happened to bitcoin?

I haven't checked for a long time, but they were speaking of Bitcoin in the same breath as the Russian ruble on the radio just now. So I looked. It's at less than half the value when that nice Dutch gentleman was giving away Bitcoin fractions here on this forum.
Sad. I wasn't an investor, but I thought it would be neat if it had taken off.

It's just tracking the general commodities deflation.

Might depend a bit on which part of Belgie :-)

Define "taken off". Bitcoin acceptance continues to grow rapidly. If you mean "taken off" as in the growth of a speculative investment, that has never been the goal of people serious about advancing Bitcoin anyway.

Apologies to Marc. It's not the first time I mixed up Dutchmen and Belgians, nor even the first forum. Gotta work on that. I could have sworn you were Dutch! Forgive me.

That's a very good point. I would like to see it gain in popularity more than just value to the dollar. So there's still hope, and maybe it was in an unhealthy bubble in the first place.

Hardly! Bitcoin is almost as solidly based as... beanie babies!

It still seems to be quite popular with the VC crowd. The future may yet be bright. Not a good investment, but maybe a fun speculation?
Disclosure, I own 8 Btc.

A local cheese shop advertised that they accept payment in Bitcoins. I was floored.

They even have their own bowl game now, called the Bitcoin St. Petersburg bowl. NC State beat UCF 34-27 on Dec. 27 in St. Pete, FL down the road from where I work.
I don't recall a beanie babies bowl but there may have been somewhere.

Bitcoin is a bit peripheral in this story, but still...

Ahh, New York City. The place where somebody can kidnap you, tie you up, and try to steal all your money, but if you get free and fight back, the government tries to ruin your life by charging you with murder. Talk about blaming the victim!

New York City happened. They are all crazy there when it comes to violence. They can't see any moral uses of it unless it involves the police (and not even then, these days). It's loony leftism gone mad.

I was going to ask "have you actually BEEN here?" but then I saw AdamA's post...Adam that sounds like an interesting story, do tell!
We certainly do have morally used violence...it's called LAWYERS.

I don't really know anything other than what's in the story from the link.
I saw the paramedics transporting the guy in the elevator...then the police.
Sad...young guys.
