Almost any cas where a cop (or anyone else for that matter) is shot is a tragedy.

Especially if there was no direct confrontation or wrong-doing that brought this on (didn't read details).

Yes just a deranged isolated case.  Right? So all of those recent protest chants of wanting dead cops had absolutely nothing to do with it. I guess that the Patrolman's Benevolent Association knew what they were talking about when they urged police not to invite Mayor Deblasio to any of their upcoming funerals. I don't think that Obama, Holder or their close friend Al Sharpton will be welcome either.

Hopefully there won't be more of these crazies, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were.

Mayor de Blasio is an ass hat and I suspect well on his way to being a one term mayor. But New York is going to get through this. It has seen much worse and always risen to the occasion.

I note the cops were Asian and Hispanic, not White...  seems more like a deranged revenge killing than something systemic.

Sorry MG. Nice try. We don't live in a vacuum. The ground had been prepared for this. The assassin was no more deranged than lone wolf ISIS  murderers are....they are brainwashed by the hate and demagogic rhetoric and kill cops as a result of it.

The assassin was undoubtedly thinking revenge and it was a terrible, horrible act that no doubt was egged on by the recent events and reaction to them, in the same way that video games can be said to trigger school shootings.  That is to say, the guy was a sicko with an appetite for destruction.  The news stories report that he shot his former girlfriend in Baltimore before threatening to kill police and then heading up to NYC.  Unfortunately, the Baltimore police didn't manage to notify the NYPD in time.

When radical politicians encourage mass lawless protests where the idiots are chanting that they want dead cops now then this is much more than an isolated act by a deranged individual.

Sadly, I have to agree with this one.

The Chinese-American cop had just gotten married two months ago.

Does it really make any difference if this idiot was deranged or a racist or whatever.  When crowds of protesters are worked into a frenzy to the extent they cry for the death of police officers, sooner or later someone will step forward and try to become their "hero". 

Add to this the Sharptons and the liberal news media re-enforcing the message of revenge.  What better way for some scum bag who has little, if any, chance of ever amounting to something to step forward and "show the world" he is really somebody important.

You have to wonder if there is any remorse whatsoever among those protestors, many of which are probably young kids that thought it was the cool thing to do.  I hope they realize that because of their actions we have two true heroes dead.

What's worse than the scumbags and the Sharptons rabble rousing is the President of the United States, the Attorney General, and the NYC mayor doing it.
