This is from a friend’s ex-boss, a legal immigrant to the United States, a naturalized American
citizen, a deep thinker and an all-around good guy.

“George”? has secured my 'vote'......this is the most common sense I've seen on one page in a
long, long time.  If only native-born Americans could think this clearly, we'd all be far better
off.

P.S. George is an avid gardener, a terrible motorcyclist, and has a 'thing' for Peruvian food.

Subject: The State of the Union

I've had it. Yesterday's speeches did it.

I am announcing my candidacy for the Office of the President. I know
the Constitution prevents me from serving but it doesn't say anything
about running for the office.

It's about time we had an immigrant for a President and I volunteer to
be it. We, the legal immigrants, are the last unrepresented and
unprotected minority left in this country and it's about time we get
what is clearly due to us. We are the people who are Americans not
because of an accident of birth but because we wanted to be Americans!
We left fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers behind to become
Americans. We came, we started a new life from a scratch, without help
from anyone. We learned new language, new customs, started new
families and through out the time we worked our butts off, paid taxes
and patiently listened and smiled while you, the native sons and
daughters, complained how rough you have it, how you are victimized by
this and that, on and on. Worse yet - we had to smile while you asked:
Oh, what an interesting accent you got! Where is it from? Ah Slovakia!
Yeah, I know, the capital of Yugoslavia! Right next to Portugal?

We are the citizens who know what real life is outside of the US and
that gives us a truly unique perspective on this country. We are the
citizens who were not educated in US schools so we still know how to
distinguish reality from dreams, truth from BS. That is one reason why
I can easily promise - when elected I will never, never ever, make you
to suffer listening to over an hour of political crap under the
pretense of reporting the State of the Union! My speeches will be
filled with facts and figures. Fair warning - maybe even graphs! And
one more thing - I will never, ever, do what my American (native born) friends do
all the time - confuse wealth redistribution with wealth creation!

Once elected I will:

1 - Work to create the conditions that will result in jobs for all who
want to work.
To have more jobs we need to help our business organizations to become
more competitive in this global economy, to reach larger markets, to
grow and thus have a need to hire more people.
To achieve that I will ask Congress to cut corporate taxes on all
business conducted within the US to ZERO. This will instantly increase
their profitability by some 20 - 30%, it will allow them to cut prices
and compete even with companies in China or Pakistan even though they
pay their people with peanuts while making them work in conditions we
in US cannot imagine anymore.
At the same time I will ask that dividends, the income of the
shareholders, the corporate owners be taxed as an ordinary income.
Same for Capital Gains.
Zero tax will also attract businesses from all over the world to move
here, to build here and to employ out citizens.

Note: The bipartisan Simpson/Bowles debt commission recognized this and included a reduction of corporate taxes from 39% to 25%...a start. It was ignored/rejected by the POTUS that started the commission.

2 - Work to make sure things Made in America are also Made by Americans.
We have laws that prohibit employment of persons who are in the
country without the permission of the American people. I will make
enforcement of such laws a top priority. And I will ask Congress to
make penalties for breaking these laws much more punitive. These
penalties must be large enough to threaten businesses who break these
rules with swift bankruptcy.
Once the persons without a work permit find they are also without a
job and without a prospect to find another they will migrate to
someplace where they can get a job. This outmigration will quickly
clarify what do we really need and Congress will be able to make the
necessary corrections to our immigration process.

3 - Work to make sure the regulatory agencies don't kill us all in
their zeal to do good.
I will order all regulatory agencies to stop all work on new
regulations until I review all this work to make sure the bureaucrats
are doing only what the laws require them and not a smidgen more. I
will report findings to Congress and request that Congress clearly
decides which regulations you, the citizens,  really want, want enough
to suffer the negative and unintended consequences of and want enough to
pay added taxes to accomplish.

Note: NC passed legislation last year that requires all regulatory agencies to review all current  laws every 5 years and justify their existence with a criteria of protecting citizens or being an economic benefit.  If unjustified, the regulation is dropped.  This is a huge job and has already started.

4 - Work to make sure we have only Government we want and are willing
to pay for.
I will request that every Head of Department of the Federal Government
conducts a thorough review of all the activities, programs,
initiatives their Department is working on. I will want to know of
every activity that cost us more that a million $ per year. I will ask
that each and every activity is:
- legally mandated by Congress
- has clearly defined and relevant goals
- has clearly defined set of measures of effectiveness and efficiency.
I will stop any activity which is, in my opinion ineffective, that is
not delivering results legally mandated by Congress. I will report
findings to Congress and request that Congress clearly decides which
activities you, the citizens, really want to continue, want enough to
suffer the negative and unintended consequences and want enough to pay
taxes for.

5 - Work to return freedom to States, cities and localities.
I will request that my Government prepares a list of all Federal
activities designed to modify decisions and actions of State, County
and City Governments. My Government will not be allowed to spend any
money to influence decisions of others. No more bribes to States to
adapt such and such laws or regulations. And again, all this will done
publicly so that you, the citizens, can make your decisions and elect
representatives that will truly represent your wishes and desires.

6 - Work to make sure the US has a common sense foreign policy.
I will make absolutely positive that our friends, such as Israel,
Canada, Australia, European Union, Japan and others - there is no room
to list all, have and know they have our full support. On the other
hand I will work to make sure any foreign country whose government is
clearly not our friend is not receiving a penny of your taxes. I will
communicate to their citizens that we certainly hope we can become
friends but until then we will treat their country as an enemy. I will
communicate to the citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan that we are
willing to help them to build a democracy - if they really wish to do
so and are really ready to work with us. If, however, they wish to
kill each other we will not spend a drop of blood or a penny of
treasure to stop them. I will communicate to the citizens of countries
that are undecided that we will be friendly, patient and hopeful but
the decision is in their hands.

Once all above is done, I will work on a common sense system to help
those in need. It will based on recognition that not all needy
citizens need the same help. It will recognize the shortcoming of all
bureaucratic approaches, their inability do differentiate needs, their
tendency to simplify complex issues into easy to manage systems, their
over riding concerns with their jobs and careers. It will be a system
that will be first and foremost effective and then measurable.

That should keep me busy for a while

Meanwhile, please DO NOT SEND ANY money to support my candidacy! If
you feel like sharing my vision of what needs to be done with your
friends, that is fine, but SEND NO MONEY!

Yours,

The Future First Immigrant President of the US.

G.

I take it you did not appreciate or understand the irony and sarcasm?  Just read the words?  Saw (heard in your head) what you wanted to?  ;)

MangoMan,

As I said to MG:  I take it you did not appreciate or understand the irony and sarcasm in that post?  ;)

And, I am not in the least upset since I view almost all political shenanigans as fantasy.  I rarely get upset by anything that is out of my control - I have found it to be a useless waste of energy.  :D

I thought he was being serious, despite the fact he can't run.  I just didn't think he was offering anything innovative and didn't understand certain aspects of economics very well either.  If it was mockery, it should have been more absurd positions rather than just tweaking around the margins.  After all, tweaking around the margins is why nothing ever changes in politics.

I didn't see anything particularly humorous (or innovative) in that platform either.
If you read the Republican platform, you will probably find it sounds a lot better than what we have (at least in economic terms). Unfortunately, it is also much better than what actual Republicans do when they get elected. :-(

By the way, the entire post of George intro and all, was one of those chain emails that floated to my inbox.  I guess I thought it was funny since it seemed to make fun of all grand "speeches", regardless of political party, aimed at promising much, arousing emotion, and delivering little, as tech says for the Repubs.  I would broaden that to include the Dems too.
