My dad passed away after a long illness today. I will be in mourning for the next forty days during which time I won't be online much. Prayers for the repose of the servant of God John are much appreciated.

AO,
I am sorry for your loss. It is almost impossible, in my opinion, for one who has not lost a father to understand the void that is created; it deminishes but never truly goes away. Thanks be to God, we will be reunited in a perfect place with perfect bodies with no worries, no pains, no sorrows. Until then, may Jesus make His face shine upon you and give you peace.

AO,
Sorry for your loss. I haven't experienced this stage of life yet. I don't look forward to it. Hang in there, and my best to you and your family.

Thoughts and prayers.
Fwiw (probably not much at a time like this), my research into near death experiences leads me to believe there is an afterlife!

AO,
Thinking of you this Maundy Thursday. (For us it's today; for you it's next week I think.) Remember that Christ became sin for your father, bore the burden that he could not, and today is with him in paradise.

Many thanks to everyone for your kind words and prayers. It's been pretty tough but we are coping, mostly I think because we have been so busy. I had no idea that dying was so complicated. Its after the funeral that I am dreading most. Coming back to this empty house, and having to live here for a while until the affairs are all settled is going to be brutal. Im not sure there is enough whiskey to get me through that first night.

I don't mean this to sound trite, but do your best to supplement that whiskey with very large doses of Holy Scripture and a good friend who knows how to listen. Blessings.

You're obviously entitled to some whiskey, but do take care.
