So 20 or 50 years from now will bitcoins be modern day tulips or something real?

The digital currency bitcoin has struggled to gain acceptance in the mainstream.
A new index could change all that.
The New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday launched a new Bitcoin index (NYXBT) that will track the dollar value of one bitcoin based on how the currency trades at select bitcoin exchanges.
"Bitcoin values are quickly becoming a data point that our customers want to follow as they consider transacting, trading or investing with this emerging asset class," NYSE President Thomas Farley said in a statement, as TIME magazine reported. "We are pleased to bring transparency to this market."...
