Some State Department officials now insist that anything published online in a generally-accessible location has essentially been “exported,” as it would be accessible to foreign nationals both in the U.S. and overseas.
With the new proposal published on June 3, the State Department claims to be “clarifying” the rules concerning “technical data” [of weapons] posted online or otherwise “released” into the “public domain.” To the contrary, however, the proposal would institute a massive new prior restraint on free speech. This is because all such releases would require the “authorization” of the government before they occurred. The cumbersome and time-consuming process of obtaining such authorizations, moreover, would make online communication about certain technical aspects of firearms and ammunition essentially impossible.
Penalties for violations are severe and for each violation could include up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million. Civil penalties can also be assessed. Each unauthorized “export,” including to subsequent countries or foreign nationals, is also treated as a separate violation.

The track record of this administration is that they don't just give technical info about guns to the bad guys, they give them the actual gun.

It's not about being surprised, it's about hopefully motivating people to share it far and wide and help defeat it.
The Republicans in congress won't let this stand if it's made clear to them that people who don't like Obama don't want it; they're eager to bloody him wherever and however they can.

On the topic of gun regulation, this is unique to this admin, and is perhaps not surprising.
On the topic of our civil liberties in general, this is NOT unique to this admin, and is not surprising.

But "Fast and Furious" actually happened. The U.S. government actually gave guns to bad guys who then used those guns to kill at least one member of U.S. law enforcement.
Who went to prison out of the Fast and Furious fiasco? No one that I am aware of.

I urge everyone to comment. It matters. If they get thousands of negative comments the distribution of comments is like 99% negative to 1% positive, that gives Republicans in congress a huge magazine of ammunition to go after this and give Obama a thumping. They'll be overjoyed to give legislative voice to something people are pissed off at Obama about. DOO EET NOW!!!
