I don't know a whole lot about him but Fred Reed is a big fan so that's good enough for me.
Right now I figure whoever wins the Democratic nomination is going to win the presidency so I'll take anybody over Hillary or Sanders.

Sounds good to me. I was convinced after reading:

Of course, I may be just a little bit biased; I have a heavy dose of Scots-Irish ancestry, along with pre-Nazi German - heil Luther!

He's a Vietnam Vet which is why I figure Fred Reed likes him. Probably figures he learned the moral imperative of avoiding the cluster-fuck of war whenever possible.

Okay, let's go with Webb vs. Trump. That's as good is it can get from my own survey of the field so far.
But I predict we'll end up with Clinton vs Bush and the only reason I would watch any of the debates between them would be to help put me to sleep.

He's more interesting than Clinton, but he has no chance.
Clinton will sell out the White House like you wouldn't believe so I believe everyone ought to vote for whatever Republican gets the nomination.
That damn third party (Rand Paul?) will all but ensure Clinton wins, though.
Depressing.

Your advice has a good PP ring to it. Since we only have 2 choices instead of 4, it's probably best to re-balance into a Republican president the next time around.
I think it remains to be seen whether the election of Obama to two terms was a factor of his race (affirmative action) or a true political shift leftward. More and more I think the latter (or both) but I could be wrong.

Jim Webb's thoughts on the "boomer elite" of his generation:
“It is difficult to explain to my children that in my teens and early twenties the most frequently heard voices of my peers were trying to destroy the foundations of American society, so that it might be rebuilt according to their own narcissistic notions,” he wrote in 1997, in an article for the conservative American Enterprise Institute.
“In retrospect it’s hard even for some of us who went through those times to understand how highly educated people—most of them spawned from the comforts of the upper-middle class—could have seriously advanced the destructive ideas that were in the air during the late ’60s and early ’70s. Even Congress was influenced by the virus.”
...and of Southern culture:
“The culture so dramatically symbolized by the Southern redneck [is] the greatest inhibitor of the plans of the activist Left and the cultural Marxists for a new kind of society altogether. And for the last fifty years the Left has been doing everything in its power to sue them, legislate against their interests, mock them in the media, isolate them as idiosyncratic, and publicly humiliate their traditions in order to make them, at best, irrelevant to America’s future growth.”

I'm getting to really, really like Jim Webb. I don't think I've ever said anything like that about a Democrat.

I really like Jim Webb, but he would be better as a RINO with his strong military background.
I also really like Kasich, but I'm surprised he's anti-choice but approves of the crazy Iran pact.
Neither one will win, barring some surprise freak upset.
I'm not sure what to believe about Trump being anti-choice but I don't think it matters. He's the vote.
Women are going to vote for Clinton and men will vote for Trump or whoever takes his place if he pulls a Perot. I am really suspicious he is just another ringer for the Clintons.

Obama sure doesn't rule like a leftward, he's a sellout to his entire base being such a center-right NeoCon with token interventions for leftish causes. And neither will Hillary. She'll just sell out to the highest bidder, but that's besides the point.
Since there really isn't much difference between a Democrat and a Republican when in power, I think the odds favor Hillary for her more rational social stances unless people really throw the bums out over the next year. It may happen as the economic situation gets bleak. Trump is our only hope to save the Empire!

He was like the Paul of the Democrat Party. It's just tough breaking into ideologue bubbles.

People don't realize how radical left/ communist the Democratic Party has become. A guy like Webb used to be mainstream.
