I think Gladwell is reaching with the riot explanation.  Why are so-called "authorities" always so reluctant to indict themselves?

Again, we have someone with a mental disorder, this time Autistic Spectrum Disorder just as in Sandy Hook, except LaDue wasn't on powerful mood-altering, suicide-promoting drugs as everyone else was all the way back to Harris. 

Truth seems to be the first casualty of making a profit, inventing a narrative or asserting Bullshit authority.  Gladwell is a dickhead like Taleb.

Applying the logic from the article, I wonder where the police officers in New Orleans who were caught on video looting a store after Hurricane Katrina would fit.

How does a person go from a police officer to a looter in a matter of hours?



In a follow-up to the story, it turned out that the police looters had actually been instructed to loot the store by their superiors to get supplies that the police needed (though I don't really see how that justifies looting, since ALL looters are grabbing things they think they need).

Interestingly, the New Orleans police were also tied to the theft of 200 new cars from a New Orleans automotive dealership during Hurricane Katrina.

The New Orleans police department is so corrupt that police horses have even been involved in scandals.  Some of you may remember the "oats for sex" incident back in the early 1990s involving horses from the New Orleans police department.  That story involved younger horses who were severely malnourished because older horses were taking their food and trading it to a stable run by "loose mares" in return for sexual favors.  Shameful.
