Re: PP YTD performance - was it the worst ever?
Nominal drawdowns are misleading. Adjusting for inflation and relative to the end of 2020 the PP as of end of August 2022 was down deeper than -20% real (after inflation). And of course deeper if you're also drawing a income. British PP, yearly granularity of drawdowns https://i.postimg.cc/63xSHh35...

Re: ⌛ Too Late for Bitcoin? Or Just the Right Time? ⚡ Finally Taking the First Step into Bitcoin?
Also, when it comes to the topic of something coming along and replacing Bitcoin, the proposition seems unlikely. You can see the beginning's of Bitcoin's position being set in stone already. This is the more important and broader thing to reply to. I personally can envision Bitcoin losing #1 statu...

Re: ⌛ Too Late for Bitcoin? Or Just the Right Time? ⚡ Finally Taking the First Step into Bitcoin?
As of 2025, Bitcoin is the only crypto that is officially deemed to be a commodity by the SEC. Why? Because it's the only crypto asset that has no issuer. Not quite. There are other zero-premine blockchains. Not many, it is true. But a few. Dogecoin for one example, interestingly enough. Also Litec...

I already answered. Read again. How about *you* stick *your* neck out and make a claim, and then maybe I'll think about "backing up" some of mine. Maybe. Claim: Somebody needs a nap. :) I generally just ignore all these meaningless posts, being above them. But since several of you -- incl...

Re: Bitcoin Costs More than Gold?
Friendly of you to ask. I still invest with the traditional Permanent Portfolio: 4x25. Bitcoin proves that a group of friends can get together and decide "we're going to use this as money," and even if the thing they choose seems to have no real value -- is hashes to nothing -- if they are...

As a perhaps-humorous note, perhaps giving some insight into me: I currently live in Bitcoin City, El Salvador.
And I still have the essentially same view of Bitcoin as I did when participating in this thread.
Though I do wish I had bought a whole bunch back then!

Hey all, I am back, returning triumphantly, and hopefully with drier Cheerios (less pissy) than before. I can see that I was not properly confirming to the friendly and non-confrontational vibe we want here, and I apologize for that. Okay, let me try to express the point we're trying to make in a cl...

Re: All America Bank 1.5%
You may be right, or you may be wrong. When it comes to end-of-republic promises, I won't put much value in FDIC or treasury promises. The most likely scenario would be inflating away the obligations, in which case both would suffer more or less equally. OK, let's break this down. There is a scenar...

Re: All America Bank 1.5%
It would be fatal to their ability to borrow money at reasonable rates if the gov't decided to default on Treasury Notes. Would it really, though? How much of the purchases of gov't debt is from our central bank, or foreign central banks (with printed dollars) vs those who can't conjure money out o...

All America Bank Savings (Mega Money Market) acct is at 1.5%, max. $35,000. Thanks for posting, Allen! I am always skeptical of these high rates, though. Bitcoin's most impactful original idea was uncensorable money. Could you explain why you think Bitcoin is "uncensorable"? Perhaps I am just too imaginative, but it seems to me if I were in the government I could come up with a number of effective ways to "censor" it. I think the...

Trump is definitely cunning, and his intuition is incredible. These are both "shoot from the hip" type traits, and Trump is nothing if not spontaneous in taking advantage of currents and forces that are just under the surface that nobody else notices, talks about, or knows what to do with...

If your point is that everything starts out as an idea in some single individuals head (and then their code) and therefore it is centralized in the beginning, then its hard to disagree with that. I'm just unclear on the productivity of such a definition and it borders on a truism. No, my point is d...

Trump himself has turned out to be much more incompetent and immature than I thought, and has been unable kick out the neocons and Heritage Foundation types. I think you are totally right (in a way), but do not know how right you are. This is the fundamental truth at the root of things: The Congres...
