Post by Benko »

if I type mapsgoogle.com into my chrome browser it redirects to:

http://www.ichannel.com/

but mapsgoogle.com works fine with firefox.

THoughts?    Oh and I'm not crazy about CHrome, are there alternatives to use instead of Firefox or chrome?

Thanks.

Hmmm.  It's actually maps.google.com.  On my Mac, if I type "mapsgoogle.com" in the address bar in FF, it redirects to http://www.ichannel.com/ .  Do you perhaps have Google as your default search engine for FF but not Chrome?  If you like neither, you might try Opera - but other than IE (boo hiss!!), there really aren't that many alternatives.

Thanks Rick.  i think it is just that Firefox autocompletes the correct entry and now since I've made the error before, chrome autocompletes the wrong entry.

Pains me to say it but both MS and Apple have upped their game with their respective browsers. FF and now even Chrome are starting to look bloaty, that said trying to get out of the Chrome habit after so many years is hard, partly because of it's cross platform behaviour.
However one cross platform wildcard to look out for is https://vivaldi.com/  , it's showing early promise.

Maybe you can fix that by saving a custom bookmark. If maps.google.. is inconvenient because it's still autocompleting as mapsgoogle, you could save a bookmark with the shortcut "mg" and then just type that shortcut in the future.

TennPaGa wrote: Also, you can delete a specific undesirable autocomplete entry.

In Firefox, type mapsgoogle (or whatever) in the address bar, but don't hit enter.  Use the down arrow to choose the offending autocomplete entry.  And then hit the DELETE key (not backspace).
I wish I could do that in chrome. I deleted a dead link from within my bookmark manager but it keeps coming back. Meanwhile, Both the deleting keys on my Mac keyboard have the word "delete" printed on them, so I also tried the above with both, to no avail. Maybe I need to clear my cache like mentioned above.

Believe me, Tenn, I even tried shift-Ctrl-?Cmd?-Del with aspercreme on the Delete button. So far, no luck. Best I can do is create a similar bookmark to a living link.
