When talking about 3D bioprinting, images of laboratories where blood vessels, human bones and even organs are being grown in futuristic machines are almost immediately conjured up. But one San Francisco-based startup called Pembient is taking this groundbreaking technology into a different, but equally important, direction. They have developed a way of 3D printing actual rhino horns without harming these endangered animals. Hopefully, this can become a viable and environmentally-friendly alternative to a black market poaching trade that has already driven the Western Black Rhinoceros into extinction and has reduced the Northern White Rhinoceros to just five animals.
Cool. I'm not being flippant when I say one day the wolves and lions will be hunting robots made of lab grown meat, feeling no pain.

Re: 3D Bioprinted Rhino Horns
What are they made of?
I thought that the demand for Rhino horns was so that Chinese men with soft boners could take a little rhino horn and chop it up and snort it like a line of cocaine.
Those Chinese men are not going to want to snort some kind of industrial plastic.

It's made of the same stuff as on a live rhino... keratin.MediumTex wrote: Those Chinese men are not going to want to snort some kind of industrial plastic.
All those greedy evil Chinese men ought to be imprisoned, castrated or better yet, turned into a rhino and hunted down. Maybe then they'll get the message that eating toenails is not an aphrodisiac.

They will be standing in line for it after Pfizer and Lilly give the drug an interesting name, and then come up with some more of their pseudo-erotic TV advertisements.MediumTex wrote:

Re: 3D Bioprinted Rhino Horns
Unfortunately, they tend to think the rhino horns are a natural solution (even though they are no solution at all) for things like impotence and arthritis. However, I don't think we're that far away from printing them a new penis and then maybe the poachers will leave these majestic animals alone once and for all.versed1967 wrote:They will be standing in line for it after Pfizer and Lilly give the drug an interesting name, and then come up with some more of their pseudo-erotic TV advertisements.MediumTex wrote:
