Only one thing that you probably already know: do you carefully hit the paper on your desk like a smoker packing cigarettes, and then riffle all four ends like a blackjack dealer? I've always had Brother printers and that has always helped me avoid jams. The last printer lasted 11 years, and I only threw it out because I had to move and had too much stuff.

I have a Brother laser printer, but it's only a couple of years old.  It is EXTREMELY finicky about the type of paper it likes -  I have tried several, but this one works flawlessly (others do not feed properly, i.e. rollers will not pick up paper):
