Evening,
Does anyone know of a fund available in the UK that is similar to PRPFX? Alternatively, is there a relatively simple portfolio of UK funds that mimics PRPFX or the standard 4x25 HBPP?
I ask this because recently I have discussed the permanent portfolio concept with friends and family, and there has be some interest in using the PP approach for their own investments. Unfortunately, this has invariably been for small (£100 - £300) monthly investments into a pension and/or ISA.
My own PP uses both physical gold and ETFs, so it would be difficult to replicate using small regular payments, and the dealing costs for ETFs on such small sums would be far too high anyway. It would seem that despite that larger annual management fees, funds may be a better form of investment for these situations. However, before I wade through the 2000+ funds on Hargreaves Lansdown or Fidelity, I thought I should ask to see if anyone here has any advice on potential UK fund portfolios.
Thanks in advance,
dgc

Re: UK PRPFX Equivalent
I don't know about UK-specific funds, but my advice for small accounts here in the US is to just save up cash until the balance is large enough for ETFs to be feasible. The crossover point is in the $3,000-$5,000 range IMO. The opportunity cost of missed interest in negligible since the balance is small and a diligent saver will hit the crossover point in a matter of months.
I don't like the bait-and-switch of selling a new investor on PRPFX only to tell them that they ought to overhaul everything to a 4x25 soon thereafter. The PP is supposed to be "permanent" and switching funds after a year or so sends a mixed message. I'd rather have a new investor get it right from the start, even if that means sitting in cash for a few months.

I posted this elsewhere a moment ago.
Do 30% gold and commodities, 60% VWINX and 10% cash. Easy in a 401 Iwould guess.
