Canada Sold 43% Of Its Gold Last Month
Why would they do this? Is their new "progressive" government about to destroy their currency even more than it already is? Helicopter Trudeau?

Wow!
Well, it's Canada. I guess they can always mine more.

Or realize that Canada urgently needs to diversify its economy away from natural resource production to countercyclical industries like nationalist-themed death metal.dualstow wrote: Wow!

Canada sold essentially all of its gold a few years ago, see http://investmentwatchblog.com/canada-h ... -currency/
It holds so little now that small differences in the absolute amount constitute large percentage changes.

Yes, I was going to mention that 1 ton +/- is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, although considerably more than I have.rickb wrote: Canada sold essentially all of its gold a few years ago, see http://investmentwatchblog.com/canada-h ... -currency/

On the other hand, I'm not sure that the US has more than that... or more than I do, for that matter.

When was the last audit of the Federal Reserve, including the gold it supposedly is holding for the Treasury's account?dualstow wrote: tech, I need something to wrap a tv dinner in and was wondering if I could borrow your hat.

Oh, that's right: never.
But of course we know that central bankers never lie and always tell the truth, right?
"For just as James Bond has a “License to Kill” in the Ian Fleming books, so central bankers possess a “License to Lie” — or, putting it more diplomatically and politely, to make promises about the future that cannot be honored and often turn to be false." Wasn't meant as an insult, but a tease. It just reminds me of that caller to Harry Browne's show talking about Fort Knox being empty, and Harry politely ending the call as soon as possible.
I suppose it's possible, just unlikely. I'll file it in the same place as "We never went to the moon."

We'll probably find out some day, when they don't have any left to stop the gold price from going to the moon.dualstow wrote: Wasn't meant as an insult, but a tease. Human behavior is economic behavior. The particulars may vary, but competition for limited resources remains a constant.
