"Adamson recognized that the mathematicians were doing the best they could with the tools they had. Legitimate dynamic transmission models—models that allow you to simulate what happens as variables such as human behavior change—normally take years to build, and once you have them, it takes days to run each simulation. Even the CDC’s flu-based model required 19 hours to run a single simulation. Adamson knew that even if a model could spit out the right answer, it would need to run fast or else it would never be used."
19 hours??!!!
I assume that these are being done on computers that have 100 (1,000??!!) times the power that this computer I am using??!!
Do any of you do any such simulations which takes so long on a computer??
19 hours??!!!

Somewhat a diversion from your question, but you might enjoy the book "Origin" by Dan Brown if you haven't read it. Discuses the uses of a quite advanced supercomputer.yankees60 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 9:00 pm More from the "Preventable" book...

Re: 19 hours??!!!
If the universe is a simulation as some people believe then this iteration has required 14 billion years to get where it is now.
