A while back the government had a fantastic idea to keep inflation under control. Rather than use actual market rent prices for 1/3 of the CPI that relates to housing, they changed the metric to an owners equivalent rent, where they survey home owners to ask if they were to rent their house, what they feel like it would rent for.

Now in 2021, Inflation is rearing its ugly head again and I’ve learned used car prices are up 40%, and a major cause of inflation.

Perhaps we can get inflation down if instead of using reported prices for cars, we survey car owners and ask what they think their car would sell for, if they were to sell it.

This works great to keep housing inflation in check, we clearly need the same for automobiles.

Of course we never know when Tomfoolery is being Tomfoolery or when Tomfoolery is being "serious" Tomfoolery. But just in case it is the latter.....the increase in used car prices is due to a worldwide shortage of computer chips causing a shortage of new cars which then, of course, drives up the prices of used cars.

Some new cars are being shipped with only one key as the chips in the other keys are being used elsewhere in cars to enable the new cars to be completed. I believe I read that this chip shortage may end sometime in 2023? I'm sure others here know way more about this chip shortage than I do.

At some point I am going to have someone make a custom built computer for me. Initially he told me it was a bad time to do so because of this chip shortage. Lately it seems like he has changed his tune.

Has this chip shortage affected any of you in either you jobs or the ability of your companies / organizations do to their work?
