Vanguard eliminates fee for buying Treasuries

Post by rhymenocerous »

Saw this on the Boglehead form, and I thought I'd link it here as well.  Since most of my retirement funds are with VG, I seriously think I will just buy 30 year Treasuries on the secondary market now.

Great news! Now there is no reason not to own bonds directly which is the best way to hold them for the Permanent Portfolio. Thanks Vanguard!

Brilliant!  Now with two great brokerages (Vanguard and Fidelity) both offering free Treasury trades we've got even further opportunities to diversify between institutions.

Funny. I traded a large chunk out of TLT at Vanguard and rolled it over to Fidelity to own LTT's directly about 2 months ago - I was sold on it by Gumby's Tutorial - http://gyroscopicinvesting.com/forum/ht ... ic.php?t=0 . Guess this messageboard caused a ripple in Vanguard's holdings  ;)
