Does anyone use anything like Obsidian or Standard Notes to keep notes and records?
I recently got back into Standard Notes. I never quit the subscription, but paused for a couple months when I realized data that I’d entered was missing. It happened again today, and when I tried to use the offline tool to decrypt backups, it only worked half the time. I never did find a copy of my note that was damaged. Very disappointing.
So, considering making a switch, even if Standard Notes is joining up with (equally clunky, equally beloved) Proton mail.

I primarily use an app called Quiver.
Its structure is not unlike typical note taking apps. It’s got notebooks, sections within notebooks, and pages within sections.
The real killer feature for me though is that it understands code.

Neat. Is it encrypted? (That’s no longer a dealbreaker for me).

Notes app that is built in to iOS and MacOS is sufficient for my minimal needs (journaling, text or scans or photos or copies of recipes, documents, etc.). It automatically syncs with my MacBook which is helpful and is as secure as most anything else that uses iCloud or a local Time Machine external drive to store and retrieve information. You can also lock individual notes (see Apple iOS website for details).
I tried Evernote several years ago but it didn’t do anything I needed that Notes didn’t do and wasn’t free like Notes.

You know me: Org mode in emacs.

Not encrypted.

Would be a nice feature though.

I loved that while it lasted for me.
Do you just do it on one computer? If you edit emacs notes back and forth on multiple devices, how are you doing it, Jack?

Yeah, I keep my work and personal files on separate computers. And I don’t travel with a personal laptop.
