Society’s veneer has gotten thinner
I’m really disgusted by the self published reactions of many young leftists to the murder of Charlie Kirk. Untold numbers of people taking to X etc to say, “now how about Ben Shapiro”, or JK Rowling, or others.
First off, it almost goes without saying that social media is a cancer. The problem is that it feeds the mob mentality that we all have somewhere inside us.
If Kirk had been a leftist, cities would be burning. So I don’t think the problem is symmetrical. Maybe that’s not relevant. But I think it must be.
I’m discouraged. Massively. Much more so by the reactions than the act itself.
I don’t see a way out.

I agree with everything you said.
I’m appalled that people increasingly see murder as a solution.
Luigi Mangione, and now this. It may just be the beginning.

Surprised by Socialist depravity? Millions of children damaged by masks during visual development and school closures. Locked in with abusers. Seniors forced to spend their last couple years in isolation ON TOP of how bad nursing home isolation normally is. Gyms closed, millions never got back into the habit. Depression from lack of exercise and socialization mistreated as "long covid". Cancer screenings canceled. AA/NA meetings canceled. Small business closed, Walmart open (with reduced hours causing more crowding). 30% inflationary wage cuts (the actual objective).
Collectivists/communists would do it all again tomorrow to get the boot back on the neck of conservatives

Yes, Luigi too, that's a good point. For some reason the reactions to that one didn't resonate as much with me at the time but they should have. I didn't sympathize with their motivations, but maybe I was too busy to pay enough attention.
Boglerdude, you raise a good point by calling them socialists and communists. I think the latter is the correct term here. I'm saying "leftists" in an effort to fit into the acceptable framework, but really the organized left are now essentially communists, with all that it implies. As Charlie Kirk would have said, "Prove me wrong."
The problem is that no one takes you seriously if you call someone a communist. I also note that anyone who wants to preserve traditional values is now labeled far right. There is a lot of labeling going on on both sides, trying to make the terms serve as indictments. But, communists is an accurate descriptor! They are totalitarians, in the manner of Mao, Lenin, etc. "Disagree with us and we will gleefully kill you."

Divide and conquer is great strategy. I wonder who is fomenting the division, and what are they accomplishing while we focus on how awful the other side is.
The internet of today seems to be mostly about propaganda, mind control, and surveillance.

FWIW: Found this lecture to High School Students quite interesting =>
From what I gather the teacher is either from or in Canada. If that's the standard of Canadian teachers

Multiple players. Far left and far right both want drama. AI fuels that with clickbait. CCP pours fuel on the fire, mostly anti-Trump because tariffs hit them hardest. And they push socialist/collectivist narratives to keep their population compliant. eg you cant have people surfing in Florida during "covid" when you're welding people inside to prevent bank runs.
Hm, Google has blocked results for songpingyang twitter. So via duckduckgo: https://x.com/songpinganq
edit1: eg whipping up anti-American sentiment pushes socialist Canada closer to CCP https://old.reddit.com/r/canada/comment ... e/nekh02c/

I didn't watch the video but I have watched one previously by him. His whole deal is that civil war and/or collapse are coming.
Re: Society’s veneer has gotten thinner
Let's talk about civil war. I think this is more inward navel-gazing by Americans.
What does war run on? People are needed to do the soldiering, for sure. What else?
MONEY. Wars run on money. A great line spoken by Wellington or his assistance in "Sharpe's Rifles".
If the USA arrives at a collapse and civil war, what happens to credit markets for US Treasuries? They collapse. Russian and Brazilian 10-year yields are 14% now. So we're going way past that, don't you think, if we have a collapse?
So let me ask you a further question... do you want to be the political party holding the US Treasury line of credit when collapse happens... or not? Because if you're the credit holder, and that creditworthiness gets suddenly flushed overnight, what do you have? You have lots of obligations to pay, no ability to make further isssuance. Is that good or bad?
Maybe you'd like to be the party out of power who has good relations with the IMF, Canada, Mexico, EU, Japan, China, UK, Australia. So which party would that be, hmmm? The other party can raise money from... Russia? Good luck with that.
It's the New Golden Rule... whoever gets the gold, rules.
Listen, don't just think the rest of the world stands idly by while the US burns... they're going to take sides out of self-interest.
"Well our side has the nukes." Well, if we're talking about national and global suicide then that's a demonic level of crazy and madness, and they're no way to address that scenario. And I'm sure there are nukes and other WMDs accessible by both sides in various places around the globe and under the seas.

Re: Society’s veneer has gotten thinner
I've seen it said that it would not be a civil war, in which one side is fighting the other for control of the government. In fact "the Civil War" of 1861-65 fails that test.
Rather it would be like the Revolutionary War, with neighbors fighting neighbors. None of this is appealing. I think we could be headed for a loosely divided country in some fashion. Pressure is building.

Re: Society’s veneer has gotten thinner
It's all so stupid, because to me it's so obviously a divide-and-conquer and clickbait-merch-grift scheme on both sides. The consultant class does it because its profitable.
I think people were ready to vote for Bernie before the consultant class crowned Hillary voted for Trump because they wanted an outsider change candidate.
Trump being the opportunist, successfully declared himself to be that person, and now he's just operating to help himself and his buddies to whatever value he can extract, and he's not really hiding that at all, is he?
I still think that people will eventually coalesce around a real change candidate from the Millennial Generation, who addresses the real issues affecting everyone and can speak to those in an inspiring manner and generate enough unity. I can't believe that person doesn't exist. But, as the Fourth Turning watchers point out, could be 2030-ish. The Boomers in politics literally have to die off.

The entrenched interests you've mentioned certainly describe it that way.

1. Decline of democracy and freedom
2. Economic collapse
3. Immigration
4. Civil War between societal groups
5. "Stupid" foreign wars. (Have citizens fighting overseas so they don't overthrow Gov't)

He seems to not quite have his head screwed on right.
