What did he do? He kind of offended me with two topics and I cringed when I heard them. Cringe is the right word. I suppose I wasn’t offended.
Do I find his other material less funny because of the the not-funny, cringey material? I suppose not.
I'm curious about what offended you, if you don't mind sharing.
The closest to offended would be the one about black people punching Chinese and other Asian ladies in Chinatown during covid, which really did happen. Dave said something like, “Now I don’t condone my brothers beating on my Asian sisters, but I had the thought that this was exactly what was going on in my body (immune system).”
Which is an incredibly clever joke, but it just reminded me of my Korean girlfriend being bullied as a child, sometimes physically.
And the other stuff was Israel-related. I wasn’t offended, per se, but I didn’t get the joke, and not just because I disagree with his stance. It seemed like an indictment without a joke, and I’ve heard the same kind of non-jokes from Michael Che on SNL.
On the other hand, Louis CK (who incidentally commented “Well, Dave’s a Muslim” on the above) made jokes about swastikas and Auschwitz live the other night, and I
did laugh. Both times. It was funny!
If a person on the street said something similar (or, ahem, on a forum

) I might not appreciate it. But comedians should be allowed to say things that regular people aren’t supposed to. Without repercussions. In Louis CK’s case, at least, it’s obvious that he’s playing a role and doesn’t mean it.
