Kickstarter: Elite: Dangerous
Elite: Dangerous is the game I have wanted Frontier to make for a very long time. The next game in the Elite series - an amazing space epic with stunning visuals, incredible gameplay and breath-taking scope, but this time you can play with your friends too. I want a game that feels more like the original “Elite”? to fly, and with more rapid travel (to allow for the multi-player nature of the game) – so you travel quickly using local ‘hyperspace’ travel rather than by fast-forwarding time – but with the rich galaxy of Frontier – and more, so much more.

Re: Elite: Dangerous
How about a transdermal patch that plugs into the game console that can administer the appropriate drug to create a sense of the conditions within the game?
That would be cool.
That would be cool.

Current trend projection is 90% of the funding goal by the expiration date in 20 days. *wipes sweat*

I'm surprised there not a little more discussion. Doesn't anyone remember the original game from 30 years ago?

Re: Elite: Dangerous
I've never played Elite, but I did really enjoy some of its successors, Trade Wars and Privateer. I'd definitely welcome a modern take on the genre. These games tend to be very addictive, though, and I'm not sure I can afford that these days.

Re: Elite: Dangerous
Addicting is the word! I'm not sure I can afford that either. I rarely play games because I find them to be too boring and unoriginal. Same shit, different year.
I first got exposed to the trading/speculation bug that I rely on today from Elite. So the game has a special place in my nostalgia.
The developers just added a new bonus of £90+ allowing you to get all future game expansions for free (which will be procedural-generated planetscapes you can land and interact with, among other things). It's rather expensive in USD, but it's very tempting to upgrade my pledge to that...
PS, are you interested? After all, Elite was the original mother of the game your avatar is from.

Kind of on the fence. I'd like for this thing to exist, but I don't know that I should actually play it.
BTW my avatar is a picture of comedian Kevin James. I was following AdamA's lead of using an avatar of a figure with the same first name.

Re: Elite: Dangerous
I used to play Elite on the C64... I don't remember much about it because I was probably 13 years old at the time, but I seem to remember it taking a very long time to play!
Chances are, any new version of it would just be "meh," kind of like the Bard's Tale remake for iPad I tried out several months back.

Re: Elite: Dangerous
It's not just a reboot though, but a MMOG without monthly fees and eventually the ability to land on planets and do other stuff you couldn't possibly do in that vector-graphic based C64 version.Storm wrote: I used to play Elite on the C64... Re: Elite: Dangerous
As I write this the total sits at over £1,051,000 and we now have 18,858 backers. Both are incredible numbers and help us get closer to the £1.25 million we need to reach in 6 days time.
There's normally a huge boost during the last 5 days of a Kickstarter project. It looks like it is going to make it. I am probably going to upgrade my pledge.
Auction fever is really ingenious for funding projects.

Re: Kickstarter: Elite: Dangerous
Almost two years later, the game just had its official release on December 16!
What we released has to be the biggest play space ever in a videogame. Our 1:1 scale recreation of our Milky Way galaxy is based on sophisticated ‘hard’ science algorithms that go far beyond random procedural generation to offer incredible scientific insights that are backed up by astronomical observation, and result in 400 billion star systems where every star, planet, moon and asteroid feels hand-crafted and relevant to the Elite: Dangerous experience.

MG,
"Stress" makes everything i.e. any physical ailment/weakness, etc worse. Depending on the person, watching lots of TV, especially sports events, or in your case, participating in lots of video games can increase the stress in your body and negate/overwhelm the positive effects of supplements.

You may be right which is probably why I don't play video games. But isn't escapism anti-stress? Just getting your mind off the usual B.S. seems like meditation to me. I think you've got to activate the lizard brain to stay balanced. I don't do that enough.Benko wrote: "Stress" makes everything i.e. any physical ailment/weakness, etc worse. Wow, that is a big game! I wonder where one could go to play it, maybe Andromeda?MachineGhost wrote: Almost two years later, the game just had its official release on December 16!
