I am 100% PP and I never attempted any VP speculation. In one of the HB shows, he talks about the speculative investment going up 10-20 times. However, most of the discussions here talk about VP investments that expect much lower returns. Some are also using other lazy portfolios as part of VP, I guess since they don't have full confidence in PP.
My question is:
Have you ever invested in anything as a part of VP for what you had a goal or expectation to get 10-20 times returns? If yes, what was that and what were you experiences in terms of failure or success? Have you followed any particular investment strategy or any guru in the attempt to achieve that?

Pennystocks
As I remember, HB talked about gold, but I don't know if they go to the sky as pennystocks.

Re: VP returns
There are no stocks from which I expect those kinds of returns. Prior to index funds and the pp, I put a small amount of money in new-ish companies that I hoped would make it big someday. IMAX, iRobot, Plug Power, etc. But, it's really just for fun and nowadays it feels like a waste of money to put another dollar into speculation when it could be part of a fairly steady return.
I like your handle, and I hope that for the most part you stick to "lazy" investing.

Re: VP returns
Those happen regularly specifically in biotech, natural resources and technology. I suggest focusing your efforts there. You will need to have an edge in terms of separating all the wheat from the chaff as hucksters abound aplenty.LazyInvestor wrote: Have you ever invested in anything as a part of VP for what you had a goal or expectation to get 10-20 times returns? Re: VP returns
following dines letter....sitting on DEEP losses at the moment...in rare earth, and other miners...including uranium...his more speculative areas.
Got me thinking on precious metals years ago
+1
3 years ago was very good for his speculative stocks...past 2 have been tragic....did some buying near tops, didn't fully heed Dines advice by taking more profits
makes me grateful for PP! Holding out hope for recovery in Dines recommendations.
