Gainesville Coins?

Anybody ever do business with them?

I'm getting ready to join the club and buy my first round of physical gold. They have comparatively good prices in addition to having their office about 20 miles from my house so they are my first choice (despite the name, they are in Tampa, not Gainesville, BTW).

Never bought from Gainesville, but I bought from Goldmart, which today shows the same price for Eagles. It's funny that 1 oz. random year Eagle is out of stock on both websites. Actually, Goldmart's been out of stock for a couple of weeks now, but they do have 2013 coins at a higher price (just $2 extra).

I use them almost exclusively.  Shipping always on time and excellent condition coins.  Typically the cheapest or second cheapest on credit card also.  My single complaint is for a $500 order shipping fees could be 20 dollars.  I can't remember what I paid for big orders, but I think it was still around 20 dollars.

I always price compare them to goldmart.com which seems to be where a lot of folks here go and it is very close.

Do they charge anything extra for credit card purchases? Can't find this on their website.

goldmart.com adds 2.95% - Surcharge for a credit card that you can see in the FAQ and on checkout.

gainesville adds 2.95% - They don't say it directly, however if you take the bank wire price and add 2.95% you get the exact same price shown for credit card radio buttons.

I don't know what's up with Goldmart.com. For the last few days their credit card system has been down. How can you run a business this way?

I have used Gainesville coins and have found them to deliver quickly and have good customer service. Their prices are also pretty good, but of course you should always comparison shop first.

Why would you put on credit card and pay another 2.95% (or about $50 per ounce) fee?

it varies from card to card but if you pay down monthly (no interest) and are not being charged for the transaction, you can actually save money when you collect the cards cash rewards, i have switched over to paying many household bills this way, ones that i would never have put on a card before just for that reason.

You would need to earn at least 2.95% cash back on the transaction just to break even on the higher upfront cost though, right? If you've got a card that you get 3% or more cash back on for everything, that's a real winner of a card.

That's correct. The highest cash back reward I was able to find is 2% on Fidelity American Express card, which is still low. I haven't heard of any cards that pay 3% or more on categories other than groceries/gas/restaurant/travel etc.

Ended up going with AJPM. To get the best deal with Gainesville you need to pay by Bank Wire Transfer and that was turning into too much of a hassle with Fidelity. Fidelity claims to be working on something to make it easier but I'll wait until they do before trying again with Gainesville. AJPM's prices were only slightly higher and they took personal checks. Was very pleased with my first purchase. I'm now waiting for the mystical power of holding physical gold to hit me but these things seem to take a lot of time with me.

I highly recommend GoldMart. They take checks too and compared to AJPM, they have better prices, a better selection, and a better website.

AJPM's prices were only slightly higher and they took personal checks. Was very pleased with my first purchase. I'm now waiting for the mystical power of holding physical gold to hit me but these things seem to take a lot of time with me.

Wow, you must have bought a lot.  Where do you live? 

I've yet to be hit by the mystical power.  Perhaps I am too cynical.

And now that they have moved to Carson City, NV, they are slightly closer to me (Pennsylvania) so faster turnaround time for gold
