They are now predicting up to 3 feet of snow in the New York area starting late tonight. Start taking precautions now. This storm might effect 50 million people.

From a MN resident who understands blizzards, best of luck to Reub and all the good folks out east.

Yep, we got ready yesterday and today. Not eggs, bread, milk, but other things. Cupboards were bare anyway.

Re: Predictions of Huge Blizzard To Hit East Coast
Perfectly timed storm! I kind of needed a snow day, and here I am not on service, clinics cancelled, and no need to go anywhere until Wednesday. Now I finally get to study for the recertification exam, write papers, review grants, and all those sort of things that somehow never manage to get done at work. Hooray! What are you all planning to do with your day off??
And thankfully my mother has a live-in home health aide so I can stay here and not feel guilty.

Reub, I just saw something about the blizzard with a map of where the snow was going to be 3foot and thought that's where Reub said he lives. Hope it all goes OK.

Yes, NYC forecast calls for 20-30" of snow and winds to 50 mph.
I'm in an apartment building built in 1926, and power lines here are underground. Reub are you still in Queens? And stone you're in this area too aren't you?
Anyway guys good luck!!!

D'oh! I've been losing track of who is where.
Anyway not really a problem for anyone who can just hunker down at home as long as power stays on. I was here for the 2006 blizzard that dumped 3 feet of snow on Central Park, and had the decency to happen just before the weekend. That was a world of awesomeness for XC skiing and sledding followed by a visit to Alice's Tea Cup which I highly recommend for apres-ski.

Sweet, sweet love by the fireplace. What are you all planning to do with your day off??
Ok actually, the fireplace is gone. We're going to be preparing a charity clothing pick-up that we've been blowing off and besides that, a lot of reading and internet. And hot soup. Sometimes it's nice to be snowed in.

Meaning lots of posting? Awesome. I'm still waiting for moda to tell us all about untaxed life insurance investments.
Soup sounds great. I've got skillet lasagna going here. Not so low carb but....

I too hope all the New Yorkers make out okay. As for that lasagna, I certainly hope that you are not cooking it in any type of metal pan that could possibly leach toxic metals into your well supplemented systems via that acidic tomato sauce. And, horor of horors, please do not use fluoridated water to cook the noodles. However, on the bright side, several of us might take the insane risk to help devour it.dualstow wrote: Hilarious. /

Supplies are running low here in CT. We are forced to survive on savory curry, gently nestled on a bed of saffron rice & sprinkled with shredded coconut.

Re: Predictions of Huge Blizzard To Hit East Coast
Well, it appears that the danger has passed and NYC can now start recovering from this deadly and frightening weather event that dumped SIX WHOLE INCHES of snow on the city. And with no wind worth mentioning. An event that's happened, oh let me see, several times per winter since the city was first founded. And for which all mass transit was shut down. Still not going to work today because it will take a full day to get it back in gear.
I know weather forecasting is not an exact science, but really. Yesterday I'd pulled up the NOAA weather maps and saw that the 20" predicted for NYC was actually only a 10% probability event, and that chances were ~60-70% of a snowfall of less than 12 inches. This was puzzling since it didn't match up with the forecasts being presented on the news. It sounds like the extreme limits are being presented as "this is what's going to happen". It might be that there was a decision to prepare for the 10% weather event and that may indeed be the sensible approach, but it sounds to me more like the networks want to sensationalize the weather and the cities are reacting accordingly, because the political price for underestimating storm severity is greater than that for overestimating.

My brother got hit pretty hard in Boston, but I think a lot of cities were spared.
Kind of disappointing, really.

Queens is part of the city too and we got a foot...and it's still snowing. And out here in the styx we actually have to shovel it.

Toxic metal lasagna with fluoride was great!
Working from home is better.
Reub good luck shoveling. Yes, there was more snow to the east...but I thought not until halfway across Long Island (Islip). JFK lists only 8 inches. Could be snow drifts.
