Saw The Rolling Stones Tonight

Really, really good show.

I couldn't believe how good they looked and sounded.  It's really inspiring to see 70+ year old guys doing that stuff.

On the way in, some hardcore religious people were yelling at people as they entered the show.  That was weird.  I wondered if they were at the right concert.

If you are on the fence about catching them on this tour, please try to see them.  It was better than I thought it would be (I hadn't seen them before).

The Who is another one of those old groups that still puts on a really good show.  I missed them when they came last month, but I saw them last time they came and I was surprised at how good it was.

That is great to hear. I saw them live in 1981 in Boulder, CO and went back for a second show. At the time we all thought they were probably on something of a farewell tour because they were in their late thirties!

Saw Air Supply a couple of weeks ago and that's another couple of old guys who still put on a great show. I think they were both around my age, 65 and 66. Not really my kind of music but I was surprised that I knew every song they sung but one.

Saw Moody Blues recently as well as Justin Hayword solo 6 months ago.  Still amazing and his current solo work is excellent.

I saw Rush a couple of weeks ago and they are still terrific.

Geddy Lee's voice isn't what it used to be, but they still put on a very good show.

Gimme Shelter was the highlight of the night for me.  This big old black lady came out and sang the female parts and the whole thing just rocked.

On another note, (pun intended) I don't know how an artist can play the same song for 50 years on stage and still enjoy it. I'm an amateur musician and I find myself getting quite bored with songs that we do just a dozen times. I would really have trouble putting emotion into a song that I had probably played ten thousand times. Unfortunately, for the stones, no one is interested in hearing any new material they might have written.

It's so great that they're still touring. Gosh, I thought they were old during the Steel Wheels tour ('89?), but they've always had the energy.

I was 16 in 1967 so I will admit my bias but it amazes me that so many of the songs I grew up with are still favorites of multi-generations since...

Yes, there were the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Herman's Hermits, Gary Lewis and the Playboys and then there were the Rolling Stones.

Personally, I was getting even more subversive listening to Bob Dylan. He just did a concert down the street from me, BTW but I didn't go. I've heard he's one old guy who doesn't put on a very good show.

I would love to have seen Elvis before he died.

I was talking with a guy who saw Elvis live in the 1970s, and he said that when Elvis came on stage something appeared to happen to every woman in the building and this weird erotic energy filled the air for the whole show.  He said he looked over at his date and it was like she was in a trance.  Elvis's charisma was incredible.

Contrary to popular belief, Elvis wasn't fat for very long.  It was probably only in the year leading up to his death that he got really out of shape.  Prior to that, he was still wearing those dumb suits on stage, but he was pretty fit.

Ok, but let's look at this way. A lot of otherwise ordinary guys take up musical instruments, especially the guitar, as a means of inciting interest from the opposite sex.

They do that because it works, as I can testify from my own experience many moons ago.

But I think that Elvis took it to an entirely different level.  When Elvis performed, he could have the girl, the mom and the grandma all getting moist simultaneously.  I can't think of anyone else who could do that, though I did see a Tom Jones show one time with an astonishing number of panties being thrown on stage (I'm sure it was in the hundreds).  Even though panty throwing is a ritual at Tom Jones shows, he finally had to tell the women to just keep their undergarments because he wanted the audience to be able to see something besides a cloud of flying panties.
