Does no one care that Turkey shot down a Russian plane today?

Post by clacy »

Also, why is it that Obama/McCain/Graham are supportive of Turkey and their defense of ISIS?

Let's hope this doesn't spiral into WWIII.

I can't imagine any winners in that mess.

The US has bases in Izmir & Incirlik. Incirlik is close to Syria and bound to be a key base for the US for the foreseeable future. The US will say stuff publicly that it won't say privately. Just what I think anyway.

It's a scary situation for sure.

I think that most world leaders are well versed in how WW I started from something akin to this, and don't want to overreact.  What I mean is, I don't see Russia looking to retaliate militarily.

Last week the McLaughlin Group panel spent a few minutes on how to deal with ISIS/ Syria/ the Mideast/ etc.  When some of them started talking about supporting this group who is opposed by the Saudis, but this other group we are helping is opposed by Iran, but we should work alongside Hezbollah, even though etc etc, I couldn't help myself, I broke out laughing.  I'm sure the panelists are representative of DC thinking.  The idea that this mess can be managed if only we carefully figure out where to draw the arrows, what a joke.  I'm not trying to derail the thread; rather, I mean to point out that the shoot down is a great example of what a disaster it is.  The Russians are bombing Turks in Syria.  Turks are pissed. And on and on.  So now all the big cheese are going to sit around a conference table and sort it out.  OK.

Not that I have any better ideas.
Stay free, my friends.

Whatever happened, I'm sure it's somehow Obama's fault. ;)

Hardly a move suggesting WWIII. I would expect a spike of hundreds of dollars almost instantaneously in that case.

Up, of course.
